String Oil Pads – OILY by String King  Oil is traditionally used to protect gut strings, especially in more humid climates and in humid conditions. It is useful as well if you perspire a lot when you play but do not like or cannot use varnished strings. You may have rough skin that abrades the surface of the strings. Oil will stabilize your intonation and prolong the life of your strings. Carrying around a bottle of oil in your instrument case is not very practical (and in airports even forbidden) but there is no such a problem with OILY. There are only several drops of oil in each package, but be sure to keep it off of the instrument varnish. Musicians using a bow will need to be careful to keep the oil away from the area of the string that comes in contact with the bow, as the oil might coat the bow hair and cause it to slip on the strings. One single pad measures 35 mm x 29 mm, big enough to hold between your fingers. They are packaged in sets of 10 in a resealable plastic bag. When in need, you can also use oil pads for your dry hands or lips, for your baby’s delicate bottom or even to lightly dress your salad.
