Indian Rosin-Wooden Box - vln, vla, vlc, viol

Indian Rosin in a Wooden Box (Padauk*)

for violin, viola, cello, viols

This is not an original baroque recipe, but the rosin made for us in India from a mixture of resins from different areas (Kerala, Maharashtra and Orisa).

I and many musicians playing on gut strings (violinists, viola players, cellists) tried it and found it very effective. The string response is very direct and articulation very clear. It's worth to try!

The rosin is fixed to the bottom of the wooden box, specially made for it. Remove the high top of the box and hold its bottom in your hand when applying rosin.

* Scientific Name: Pterocarpus soyauxii. Also called Vermillion. This wood species is not listed in the CITES Appendices or on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
