String King offers gut strings for historical instruments from 7 manufacturers: Aquila, Baroco, Gamut, Toro, La Folia, Pure Corde and Pirastro. You can choose between these labels and pick single strings, whole sets or mix strings according to your personal preferences. Our own experience shows that combining strings from different manufactures works very well on an instrument. We also advocate a baroque stringing principle of equal tension for all the strings on the instrument.
We provide information from different manufacturers with their suggestions and stringing examples (those common today and those historically correct). Our own experience shows that even sets marked as “heavy” are relatively light. If you want to get deeper into the subject read the articles under About baroque stringing. We can always assist you with advice and help in choosing a historical set of strings appropriate for different styles and periods or in finding a compromise between your habits and the historical stringing evidence. It may often take some time to find the best strings for just you and your instrument. The only way is to try different solutions and to experiment. If you know what strings you are looking for, you can just pick them up and put them in your basket.
