The Evolution of Our Strings: From Venice to New Venice
The VN strings are primarily designed for stringed instruments (however, they are also recommended as fifth and sixth bass strings for the Renaissance six course lute). The VN strings represent a significant step forward compared to the classic our Venice strings: while the original Venice strings were inspired by nautical strings and featured a mechanically polished surface, we now present an innovation that combines tradition and research.
This new twisting system has the following advantages:
- Minimal noise when attaching the bow
- Superior acoustic quality
- Exceptional intonation stability
Two important features of VN strings:
- The exclusive use of whole lamb gut
- Hand made surface polishing, replacing the mechanical process
- A Technical Peculiarity:
Due to manual polishing, diameters are necessarily indicated by means of a range of gauges instead of a single value.
For example, you will find a diameter range of 1.78 to 1.82 mm indicated with the code 180VN (this is a tolerance of +/- 0.04 mm only).
Hand polishing, using traditional methods, gives the string a slightly rough texture. This results in a better bow attackand increased string longevity.
VN strings represent a perfect blend of traditional techniques and research, offering players a superior product.
